For those of you who like happy endings and actually read these notes, here's your first and last warning.

I've given myself the luxury of two happy endings so far – at the end of 'My Sister, My Strength' and also at the conclusion of 'New Blooms'. In retrospect, I consider those two fanfics to comprise my own ending to the game, which makes things right again – or at least sets things up for a positive future for Kana and Taka.

And now I'm going to pull the rug out from under their feet. The ending of 'First Falls' should give you an indication of where I'm taking this fanfic. Once again, feel free to join me. But I want to warn you that things are going to get darker. And they're going to stay that way.

I've said enough. Taka will be telling the next chapter, and probably one or two more in this series. But Rika will be back for chapter 3. Those firstborn Todos just can't seem to catch a break...

Pronunciation guide

I deliberately used significantly more Japanese phrases in this fanfic, so here's a guide on how to pronounce the vowels. Fortunately, in Japanese, there is only one way each vowel can be pronounced.

Capitals indicate which syllable should be stressed.

• A = ah (as in 'bar')
  Sara-chan – SAH-rah-chahn, okaasan – oh-KAH-sahn
  
  
• E = eh (as in 'red')
  Watanabe – WAH-tah-NAH-beh, oneechan – oh-NEH-chahn
  
  
• I = ee (as in 'see')
  Rika – REE-kah, okonomiyaki – oh-KOH-no-mee-YAH-kee
  
  
• O = oh (as in 'no')
  Otousan – oh-TOH-sahn
  
  
• U = oo (a short vowel sound, as in 'foot')
  Yatabe-kun – yah-TAH-beh-koon

A double vowel indicates that the sound should be slightly lengthened, eg 'okaasan' or 'oneechan'.
